There is the adage that “change is the only constant” and most of us would agree that the past few years have been exceptionally turbulent.

Four Things Our Church Should Still Focus On

Bible Reading: Ephesians 4:11-13

“So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” – Ephesians 4:11-13 (NIV)

As a church, it is essential to remain anchored in our mission and purpose. In a world that is constantly changing, there are four key areas we should focus on to ensure we fulfill our calling and impact our community effectively:

  1. Teaching and Discipleship: Our primary goal should be to teach and disciple believers in the Word of God. Spiritual growth happens when we delve into Scripture, understand its truths, and apply them to our lives.
    • Scripture Reference: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
  2. Community and Fellowship: Building strong relationships within the church is vital. Fellowship encourages accountability, support, and love among believers. We should create opportunities for connection and unity.
    • Scripture Reference: Hebrews 10:24-25 – “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.”
  3. Serving and Outreach: The church is called to serve others and share the love of Christ. Engaging in outreach programs and serving our community demonstrates God’s love in action and provides opportunities for others to know Him.
    • Scripture Reference: Matthew 5:14-16 – “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”
  4. Prayer and Worship: A vibrant prayer life and heartfelt worship are essential for a healthy church. We need to prioritize prayer in all we do, inviting God’s presence and guidance, while worshiping Him in spirit and truth.
    • Scripture Reference: John 4:24 – “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

In summary, our church should focus on teaching and discipleship, community and fellowship, serving and outreach, and prayer and worship. By concentrating on these areas, we can ensure that we are fulfilling our mission and making a lasting impact in the lives of those around us.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, guide our church as we seek to fulfill Your mission. Help us to remain focused on teaching, building community, serving others, and worshiping You. May our efforts bring glory to Your name and draw more people to Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
